The StoneCrest RC Flyers was chartered by the Academy of Model Aeronautics, Inc. (AMA) in 2009 and has been in continuous operation since that time. The club maintains a membership of approximately 17 members, conducts monthly meetings and yearly elections. Membership is open to anyone with a desire to pursue the hobby of model aviation. The club conducts Radio Control flying at a field located adjacent to StoneCrest Golf Club. The facility contains a 50' X 400' grass runway. There is also a 48' shelter structure, solar-powered charging stations, trash barrels, flight stations, and porta john. These facilities are behind locked gates, but are usually open on weekends and visitors are welcome.

The city of Prestonsburg has appointed StoneCrest RC Flyers as the responsible organization for safe operation of all flying at this field. This responsibility includes control and supervision of all activities in this area. Everyone using the airfield must observe the following rules:

  • Be a member of AMA and follow the AMA Guidelines.
  • Be a member of StoneCrest RC Flyers or the guest of a member.
  • Abide by the posted StoneCrest RC Flyers Operation Rules and Guidelines.
  • Follow the AMA Safety Code.
  • Demonstrate to a club member the ability to safely operate an R/C Aircraft.
  • Obey the special guidelines set forth by Prestonsburg City Government for the operation of this special facility.

Each AMA member must sign a statement that they will abide by the AMA Safety Code. Each member is protected by $2.5 million dollar Commercial General Liability Accident/Medical insurance coverage. The AMA Club Charter to StoneCrest RC Flyers provides $2.5 million dollar insurance for the flying site landowner.

The AMA has contests and other activities in locations all over the U.S. and the world. As you become a more proficient flyer you may wish to travel to these events and be a participant.

Anyone with an interest in Model Aircraft building and flying will benefit from membership in StoneCrest RC Flyers. Modeling is an excellent family activity and many new friendships are created through associations at the field and the events during the flying season. Many members travel together to fly-ins and contests around the country.

For Membership fees please contact a member. Flight training is free to all members.

Meetings are typically held the third Sunday of each month between 3:00 PM and 4:00 PM at the club field or a location chosen by the members.

Now that you have taken the time to learn about our club, we would like to invite you to come to our field. Bring the family or friends and we will show you what our hobby is all about. For more information feel free to contact a club member.
